The Myrtle Beach Daily is the quickest way to get caught up on what's going on in town today.

Hey, neighbors! Kathy Mandell here with a fresh issue of the Myrtle Beach Daily. Today is Friday, August 20, 2021, and here are the stories I'll tell you about. MBACC wants staff and others to mask up inside their building, a five-car pileup backed up beach traffic and sent one to the hospital, over 100 COVID-19 cases have been reported by Horry County Schools already, the man accused of a deadly stabbing refused to attend his own hearing, and a woman wanted by Surfside Police for a hit and run turned herself in.
Here's a peek at Friday's weather: Rain and scattered thunderstorms. High: 87 Low: 74.
Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- The Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is requiring its staff to wear masks inside the organization's building at 1200 North Oak Street. The decision comes after a surge in COVID-19 cases in the area. The MBACC also wants attendees at chamber events to mask up. Government buildings run by the City of Myrtle Beach have not yet put mask requirements in place. (WMBF)
- One person was taken to the hospital after a five-car pileup in Carolina Forest on International Drive near River Oaks Drive. Traffic heading towards the beach was backed up heavily while Horry County Fire Rescue attended to the scene Thursday. (WBTW)
- Horry County Schools are in full swing, and have reported more 116 COVID-19 cases in the first three days of the academic year. Students accounted for 104 of the cases, while 12 staff members rounded out the number. 51 staff members are currently in quarantine. (wpde.com)
- A suspect connected to a deadly stabbing in Myrtle Beach earlier this week refused to appear in court for his bond hearing on Thursday. Officers that appeared in court before Honorable Judge Jennifer Wilson explained that the suspect refused to attend the hearing. He was sent directly to Reuben Long Detention Center. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
