Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Vanished: What happened to Thomas Dias? The 37-year-old's mother, and Myrtle Beach Police, are asking anyone with information to come forward. Dias was last seen in May of 2019, arguing with a person outside Old Chicago Pizza in Murrells Inlet. The other person was arrested, and Tommy Dias rode away by bicycle. He has not been seen since. Dias is one of 20 missing person cases the MBPD is working on. (WMBF)
  2. A boater who had been missing since Tuesday is the Horry County man whose body was recovered on Thursday from the Little Pee Dee River. Harless Floyd, 73, of Loris, died after falling out of his boat near Punchbowl Landing, says Horry County Deputy Coroner, Michelle McSpadden. (wpde.com)
  3. Two were hurt when their vehicle struck a culvert in Little River at Highway 57 and D L Drive at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. The vehicle's occupants were taken to the hospital, after being trapped in the wreck. Horry County Fire Rescue worked the scene, and SC Highway Patrol is investigating. The extent of the injuries is not known at this time. (WMBF)
  4. Socastee saw two crashes at the same intersection this weekend. Both incidents snarled traffic on Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning. The intersection of Palmetto Pointe Boulevard and Highway 17 Bypass is one of the heaviest traffic areas in the region. The Sunday accident happened just before noon, and the Saturday crash occurred at about 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported from the Saturday incident, and no information on injuries has been released regarding the Sunday crash at the time of this posting. (WBTW)
  5. Tidelands Health has a new treatment option for patients with chronic knee pain. It isn't drugs or surgery, and it's non-invasive! The treatment is a cooled radiofrequency that blocks pain signals from the nerves to the brain. Doctors say the treatment can last up to a year, and can be repeated. There are no side effects. Specialists are trying to avoid using powerful narcotics, such as opioids, or surgery and other invasive techniques to treat chronic knee problems. So far, a limited number of patients have received the treatment. (WBTW)

From my notebook:

  • A reader requested that I post North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex's schedule in the MB Daily. Well, I did not know the complex had a full calendar and schedule on its website, so many thanks to PJ for pointing this out to me! Events will be posted in the "Today In Myrtle Beach" section. Thanks again, PJ! (NMB Park & Sports Complex)
  • My first winter here on the Grand Strand, I joined a "Meetup" group on Super Bowl Sunday and we all went to Dagwood's Deli & Sports Bar in Surfside to watch the game. To this day, that group of women are my dear friends! Imagine my delight when I spotted this article about Dagwood's preparing for Super Bowl LVI. Hope everyone who went there on Sunday had a fabulous time, and maybe made some new friends! (WMBF)
  • You may have spotted shelter dog, Jake, if you watched the Puppy Bowl. Jake, who bears an uncanny resemblance to one of my dogs, is at Pawmetto Lifeline in Columbia, SC. He is up for adoption, and the shelter says it will be sorting through applications on Tuesday. They also remind everyone that there are many shelter pets in need of homes. The feature is a great way to bring awareness to the overcrowding of shelters across the state and the U.S. Adopting a shelter pet makes room for another life to be saved, besides. (WPDE)

Now you're in the loop and ready to start this Valentine's Monday off right. I'll see you Tuesday with your next installment of the Myrtle Beach Daily!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
