Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Carolina Country Music Fest organizers didn't wait long after wrapping up this year's festival to announce headliners for 2023. On Friday, CCMF announced that the one and only Miranda Lambert will be one of the headliners. Lambert will be the first female performer to ever take the stage at CCMF, which has been running every summer since 2015. A few weeks ago, Morgan Wallen was the first country artist to be announced as a headliner for the 2023 festival scheduled for June 8 through 11. (wpde.com)
- Horry County Schools reports that it is in "dire need" of school bus drivers as the 2022-2023 academic year is about to begin. Staffing of bus drivers declined seriously during the pandemic and has not bounced back. The district is offering drivers retention bonuses of up to $1,500 per semester. Even with those incentives, recruiting efforts and job fairs, there has been little progress hiring more drivers. That has led the district to merge and cut routes, resulting in students being subjected to lengthy wait times and longer bus rides. (WBTW)
- A 68-year-old boater was rescued from a capsized vessel off Pawleys Island on Thursday. A bystander called the Coast Guard station in Georgetown to help the man. Crews were able to quickly reach the boater, who was in the water near the watercraft and wearing a life jacket. (WMBF)
- Friends and family of 63-year-old Tammy Perreault, who was killed by a beach umbrella at a Garden City beach on Wednesday describe her as kind-hearted, sweet and a "most loving and kind person." One of her best friends was with her on the beach that day. Perreault's friend described Tammy as the kind of person who would do anything for anyone and had a love for life and for her friends. Horry County is still investigating the specific details of the incident. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that there are thousands of beach umbrella-related injuries reported to the agency each year. (Myrtle Beach Patch) (WMBF)
- Local police are working on removing a hoax post on social media that suggested a serial killer or abductor was on the loose in Myrtle Beach hunting for victims. Horry County police said the post was made by a person outside the United States on a Facebook page called Myrtle Beach Sweet Deals. There is no known threat to Grand Strand communities, said the department. Officials suggest that anyone who sees the post should report it to Facebook. Meanwhile they are working with the social media company to remove the post and hold the poster accountable. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
