First, let's check out the fall weather:

Sunny and pleasant. High: 74 Low: 55.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. An 86-year-old man with Alzheimer's, who lives in Carolina Forest, was missing for some time over the weekend. Andrew Hovancik was reported missing on Sunday. As of Monday morning, it was announced that he was located by Horry County Police, and is safe. (WBTW)
  2. Myrtle Beach gas prices are still topping $3.00 per gallon with no relief in sight. The interesting news is that gas prices on the Grand Strand are below the national average. According to GasBuddy, an upward trend continues and there are no signs of prices going down any time soon. (WMBF)
  3. North Myrtle Beach is updating its flood maps for the first time in 22 years. Back in August of 1999, was the last time the city's flood maps were revised. FEMA and the City of NMB updated the Flood Insurance Studies and Flood Insurance Rate Maps to remain compliant with the National Flood Insurance Program. The updates will be effective December 16, 2021. (wpde.com)
  4. Myrtle Beach is preparing for the return of Canadian tourists. The travel ban between the U.S. and our neighbor to the north is being lifted in November. Karen Riordan, CEO of Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce says the ability to welcome Canadians to the area will be great for local businesses. Canadians are the top international visitors to the Grand Strand. (WBTW)
  5. Trick-or-treating is a "go" this year on the Grand Strand. Doctors at Tidelands Health and Conway Medical Center have opined that the mostly outdoor event should be fine for children and families to enjoy. Some exceptions would be if folks are inside of a car, or in a large group. In those instances, they advise wearing COVID-19 blocking masks. Social distancing is also on the Halloween menu. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
