Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Police who were trying to locate a missing 91-year-old North Myrtle Beach woman found her dead in her vehicle in Lumberton, North Carolina on Saturday evening. No foul play is suspected. The woman, Mary Elizabeth Cook, was found deceased in Lumberton after the Lumberton Police Department got a request to check an area near Country Club Road. There, the LPD found Cook deceased inside a white Honda minivan. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
  2. Coastal Carolina University is honoring a graduate and CCU employee who was killed in a car crash in 2020 by setting up a scholarship in her memory. Jessica Hughes graduated in 2017 and then worked at CCU as a student accounts specialist. She was 25 when she died in a car crash on Highway 905. The perpetual scholarship will be for marketing or finance majors. (WBTW)
  3. Here is a list of Independence Day celebrations and fireworks shows all across the Grand Strand, happening on Monday, July 4. (wpde.com) Additional events on days surrounding the fourth can be found here: (Visit Myrtle Beach)
  4. Horry County Fire Rescue extinguished two fires in close proximity on Sunday afternoon off Highway 501. One fire was in a dumpster behind Tanger Outlets, at the 4000 Block of Factory Stores Boulevard. A nearby building was evacuated, but there was no structural damage. (wpde.com) Crews also responded to an outdoor fire on the 4800 block of Highway 501. There were no injuries reported in either case. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
