Happy Tuesday, Myrtle Beach! Let's get this day started off right. These are the most important things happening around the Grand Strand today.

Here's Tuesday's weather: Humid and mostly cloudy throughout the day. High: 88 Low: 79.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A major crash on the Highway 17 Bypass in Myrtle Beach near Mr. Joe White Avenue involved several vehicles, and closed the roadway Monday afternoon. As of the time of publication, there is no additional information on cause or injuries. (WMBF)
  2. In a follow-up to yesterday's story about a vehicle that went into a pond, it has been confirmed that a SC Highway Patrol officer and first responders from Midway Fire Rescue in Pawley's Island did jump into the water to save a man and his dog from the car. Both the driver and his dog were rescued. (WPDE)
  3. Little River got the most votes in a plan to make the area an historic district. The unincorporated community has six properties on Horry County's historic property list: McLamb Cemetery, the Brentwood Restaurant, Little River Methodist Church Cemetery, the Parson's Table, Livingston House and the Riverview Live Oak Tree. The historic district would be along Mineola Ave and Highway 17. (WBTW)
  4. Officials in Horry County are planning to begin drawing new council and school board districts. Redistricting would entail dividing the county population by the number of council and school board seats (currently set at 11). Then, districts would be determined based on a similar number of people within each district, with a 2% leeway of the target number. District 4, which stretches from the Burgess community to Market Common would see the most significant changes. (MyHorryNews.com)
  5. A restaurant in Surfside Beach has been ordered to pay $75K to ten of its employees, after forcing them to share tips with the owner and manager. The U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division did an investigation of the matter and found that Sarku Hibachi Surfside Beach, Inc. violated a Fair Labor Standards Act. The employer also was cited for failing to keep track of cooks' working hours. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
