Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Two people from the Grand Strand were killed in fiery crash in Marlboro County over the weekend. Pawleys Island resident, Xavious Dereef, 21, and Kenisha Tucker of Georgetown, 18, were killed when their SUV encountered a tractor-trailer on Salem Road. Their vehicle caught on fire, and both died in the crash. (WBTW)
- The always popular Mustang Week has returned to Myrtle Beach after a two-year hiatus due to Hurricane Dorian (2019), and the pandemic (2020). The family-friendly fete lasts all week long, and there are daily events scheduled all across Grand Strand. This is the 20th "annual" Mustang Week, and it culminates with a cruise-in at Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Saturday, September 11th. (wpde.com)
- It has been a long and challenging summer for short-staffed businesses in the Myrtle Beach area as a huge wave of tourism took the Grand Strand by storm after a year of visitors being stuck at home. With the unofficial end of summer, Labor Day weekend saw another surge of visitors. Restaurants and hotels experienced the most difficulty hiring workers because regular J-1 students couldn't come to the U.S. from other countries. The MB Visitors Bureau is speculating that bookings will continue to be high for September and October. (WMBF)
- In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day, this coming Thursday, September 9th, Horry Georgetown Technical College students will be hosting an event outdoors at the Conway campus. The event is part of a week-long series of events in the area run by the North Myrtle Beach chapter of SAVE, Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. (wpde.com)
- For the third year in a row, drownings in Horry County have increased. As of the end of August, the county saw 22 drownings in 2021. Drownings have occurred in all types of bodies of water: pools, lakes, the ICW, a hot tub, and the ocean. MBFD Capt. Jonathan Evans wants to figure out ways to communicate with tourists about water safety, especially now that Myrtle Beach is becoming more and more of a year-round destination. (Myhorrynews)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
