On Wednesday, Aug. 18, members of the 42nd class of Leadership Grand Strand (LGS) gathered at BELFOR Property Restoration in Myrtle Beach for their first session. During the orientation, participants learned more about the program, asked questions, had their photos taken by Tides Eye Photography and gathered for an opening reception sponsored by the LGS Board of Regents. Each participant received an LGS handbook and a copy of "QBQ! The Question Behind the Question: Practicing Personal Accountability at Work and in Life" by John G. Miller.

Twenty-seven professionals from the Grand Strand area were selected to participate in this year’s program, according to LGS Executive Director Diana Greene, who noted that while the participants represent a broad spectrum of professions and come from diverse backgrounds, “all are eager to come together to advance their leadership skills.”

Sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, LGS provides a broad curriculum designed to enhance participant’s leadership skills and professional development as well as provide networking opportunities and access to resources throughout the Grand Strand. In addition, each member is required to partake in 75 hours of community service, which is divided between Habitat for Humanity, Horry County Schools, New Directions, the Ann DeBock Leadership Award nomination project, personal hours and an initiative with the City of Myrtle Beach to support downtown redevelopment projects.
