Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Check out the link here for everything you may need to know about the 83rd annual Myrtle Beach Spring Bike Rally. The rally kicks off today and goes through May 22. It is expected that thousands of bikers will come to the Grand Strand and business owners are prepared and excited. The Town of Surfside Beach is offering free motorcycle trailer parking and the city of Myrtle Beach is not having a special "bike loop" this year. (wpde.com)
- Authorities searched a wooded area in Georgetown County using heavy equipment on Thursday and found remains. The search was conducted on the heels of the arrest of Raymond Moody, a person of interest in the case of missing teenager, Brittanee Drexel. Moody is being held on $100,000 bond for obstruction of justice, but authorities are not saying whether the charges are connected to Drexel's disappearance. (WBTW) It is also unclear if the remains found are related to the Drexel case. (WBTW)
- A Durham, North Carolina man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after admitting he brought minors to Myrtle Beach for prostitution. The man pleaded guilty to charges after a lengthy investigation that began when a 15-year-old runaway reported to MBPD that she was the victim of human trafficking. A co-defendant in the case also pleaded guilty to concealing the man's crimes, and will be sentenced at a later date. (WMBF)
- Gas prices in Myrtle Beach and Florence have set a new record. On Thursday, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Myrtle Beach rose to $4.09. (WBTW) Prices of diesel fuel are also increasing, and this is affecting most people on the Grand Strand. To keep up with inflation, trucking businesses, hauling companies, waste disposal companies, and others have had to increase their prices. (wpde.com) In a post on the social media platform, NextDoor, a photo of an announcement to truckers by Love's service centers indicates that the Eastern U.S. may be experiencing diesel fuel shortages soon. (Nextdoor)
- Planning departments throughout Horry County are envisioning a 35-mile bicycling path that could connect Myrtle Beach to Aynor in the future. A meeting was held at Coastal Carolina University this week to discuss the idea of bicycling and walking trails in the county. Right now it seems to be a great vision but the problem is finding the money to transform the unused railroad into a bikeway and walking path. (WMBF)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
Thursday's pic of the day comes from Mark Steeves, who sent in this photo of sea oats at Huntington Beach State Park. What are sea oats, you may ask? They are one of the most vital dune grasses on the southern coast of the United States, and they're protected by law because of their critical role in keeping sand dunes strong. Thanks for the photo, Mark!

Thanks for all of the pic-of-the-day submissions! Photographs are being posted in the order received, so if you don't see your photo here keep checking back, it will be posted soon. Meanwhile, if you'd like to see your photo here, submit one for consideration. Confirm in your email that you own the rights to the photograph, and that Patch has your permission to republish the photo.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
