Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- U.S. News & World Report has ranked Myrtle Beach as the number one fastest-growing city in the United States. That's no surprise to us locals. Myrtle Beach's overall score as a desirable place to live is 6.4 out of 10. The city ranked 37th in Best Places to Live, and 25th in Best Places to Retire, but hit number one in Fastest-Growing Places (in the U.S.) as well as the number one best place to live in South Carolina. (USNews.com) (WBTW)
- Apparently Horry County has some of the cheapest gas in South Carolina. That's according to a report from Gas Buddy that shows a Marathon station in Conway selling gas for $3.97 a gallon, and a Circle K in Surfside, coming in at $3.98 per gallon. These numbers are as of Tuesday, May 17. (WBTW)
- A 33-year-old Myrtle Beach man has been arrested and charged in the Socastee shooting that left one person seriously injured on Tuesday. The man was arrested two miles from the North Carolina border, in Little River, shortly after the shooting occurred near Highway 544 in Socastee. Multiple shots were fired into a parked, occupied car in a driveway on Lake Park Drive, hitting the victim. The suspect faces multiple charges including attempted murder. (wpde.com)
- Carolina Country Music Fest has announced that tickets are officially sold out. The event will happen June 9 through 12, and features country artists Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean and many others. (WMBF)
- The latest shortage is affecting doctors and hospitals. A type of dye used for CT scans is in short supply, and the impact is being felt at Myrtle Beach-area hospitals. The dye is called iodinated contrast, and it's used for CT scans and procedures related to heart attacks and strokes. The product comes from a facility in China that was not operating for a time due to a temporary lockdown. The factory is open again, but the shortage is expected to last several more weeks. SCDHEC is working with doctors and hospitals for ways to get around the shortage. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
