Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Here is some welcome news that you may have noticed while you are out and about. Myrtle Beach gas prices remained unchanged in the past week. Even though prices here are still averaging at more than $4 per gallon, we are slightly lower than the South Carolina average, and about 30 cents lower than the national average. Experts say a $4.50 per gallon national average is "off the table" for now, but could crop up in the future. (WMBF)
  2. Adrian Sawczuk, co-founder of Tidal Creek Brewhouse, says he is facing price pressure on all fronts as the brewery grapples with the impact of inflation and the situation in Ukraine. How does Ukraine impact a brewery, you may wonder? Because the country is one of the leading producers of wheat and grain in the world. Sawczuk says grain prices have gone up 35% during the past year, and that's before the war in Ukraine even began. Aluminum can pricing is up 16%, coffee is up nearly 40%, and the cost of labor is also higher. (WPDE)
  3. Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner, Tamara Willard, has released the identity of the man who died in a house fire after barricading himself inside during a standoff with police on Saturday. Anthony Lee Rayfield, 43, was found dead in the home on the second floor just before midnight Sunday. The house where Rayfield was found was heavily damaged by fire, and two other homes on either side of that house were damaged. The community is pulling together to help a mother and her two kids cope. (WPDE)
  4. In case you missed the previous announcements, this week is the 61st annual Can-Am Days here on the Grand Strand. Visit Myrtle Beach and the MB Chamber of Commerce are rolling out the red carpet and welcoming back our Canadian friends with some Southern hospitality! There are events throughout the week, and special offers and discounts around the area. Welcome back, Canadians, you've been missed! (Press Release Desk)
  5. Coastal Carolina University's partnership with South Carolina's 16 state technical colleges is getting more popular, despite a rocky start in the fall of 2019, right before the pandemic took hold. The program expanded last month, now enabling students to transfer credits from various schools in a number of ways so they can have a smooth transition to a four-year college after completing a two-year program at a technical school. Additional agreements are also in the works. (WBTW)

Alrighty, you're all good for Tuesday, everybody! See you all Wednesday for your next Myrtle Beach update.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
