🌱 Myrtle Beach Off-Season Beach Rules Begin + Mustang Week Comeback!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

(Patch Media)

Hi y'all. It's me, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily — back in your inbox with all the most important things happening in town these days. Today is Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Here we go.

Let's have a look at Tuesday's weather:

Humid with a t-storm in spots. High: 87 Low: 75. Ocean temperature: 82.4 degrees.

Here's to the wonderful local business who sponsors this newsletter. Check out what they can do for you:

Thinking of a move to the Myrtle Beach area, but don't know where to start? What if we could connect you with a real estate agent that not only has over 100 5-star reviews on Zillow — but has lived through a relocation herself and understands the process well. Val Lyons at Realty One Group knows that details matter. If you're downsizing, relocating, or curious about home taxes in a new area, Val knows the market and understands communication is key. Message or call her at 774-259-8937.

Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The day we dog parents and bicycle riders look forward to every summer is finally here! Non-summer beach rules are now in place as of today in Myrtle Beach. Dogs and bicycles, tents and canopies are all allowed on Myrtle Beach beaches until spring. Keep in mind that other Grand Strand beaches may be on a different schedule than Myrtle Beach. For instance, dogs aren't allowed on North Myrtle Beach beaches during the day until after September 15. Always double-check your specific beach's rules before you head out. Remember, dogs must always be leashed and you must pick up after your dog. (WMBF) (wpde.com) (nmb.us)
  2. A local man is suing the South Carolina Department of Education over claims of racial discrimination that occurred at his job in Horry County. Eric Jordan worked as a school bus mechanic in Conway starting in 2018. The lawsuit claims that Jordan was subjected to racial discrimination from the start. Multiple incidents were reported to supervisors who are accused of doing nothing to address the discrimination. Jordan reportedly experienced severe anxiety, mental distress and feared for his personal safety and that of his family. The department is being accused of gross negligence, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Jordan is seeking damages in an unspecified amount. (WBTW)
  3. Additional information has been released about the single-vehicle crash that killed a 19-year-old in Longs over the weekend. According to reports, the Cadillac SUV the young man was driving ran off the road, crossed the center line, then hit a ditch and culvert and overturned. The vehicle caught fire and the driver, Jonah Prince of Loris, was unable to escape. (WMBF)
  4. SCDOR says student loan forgiveness will not be taxed in South Carolina. The department posted on Twitter, stating that student loan forgiveness will not be considered taxable income. Several states, including North Carolina, are apparently subjecting forgiven student loans to income taxes unless they change their laws to be in alignment with a federal tax exemption for student loans. (WBTW)
  5. Mustang Week revived! Ford Mustang fans and local business owners expressed so much disappointment in the news that the 2022 festival would be the last one to happen in Myrtle Beach that the organizers of the event figured out a way to keep Mustang Week going. It was announced on Facebook that the event will continue right here in Myrtle Beach thanks to a new partnership. The 2023 event will happen almost exactly a year from now — September 4 through 10, 2023. The car show will be held at Myrtle Beach Mall. (wpde.com)

Harrington's son-in-law surprised him with three tickets to Saturday's game against Army. Harrington even brought along a cowbell to clang when the Chants scored a touchdown. (wpde.com)
  • Coastal Carolina University anglers won the Bassmaster College Series National Championship on Sunday. Andrew Vereen of Murrells Inlet and his partner Connor Cartmell earned the victory on local waters. The pair received their trophies in front of a huge crowd of fans that gathered in Georgetown. They won $5,000 and two Humminbird Helix 10 units, plus they locked in their place in the College Classic Bracket. (Bassmaster.com)

Thanks for following along and staying informed on this Tuesday, folks! I'll be here Wednesday morning with another update on all things Myrtle Beach.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
