The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

(Patch Media)

Happy Sunday, neighbors! It's the first day of spring! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, a check on today's spring weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 66 Low: 45.

Did you know that one of the easiest ways to reach local customers and become the go-to business in town is to sponsor the Myrtle Beach Daily? Click here to learn more.

Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The annual Myrtle Beach Spring Job Fair is set for Tuesday, March 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach. The event is being sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, the Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments and SC Works. (WBTW)
  2. The North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival was a huge hit, and attendees were thrilled to get together again after a two-year hiatus. Check out photos and videos in the links here! (WMBF)(Myhorrynews) (wpde.com)
  3. Meanwhile, heading south to Myrtle Beach, spectators weighed in on how they are adjusting to new admission fee for the popular Run to the Sun Car and Truck Show that was held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the former Myrtle Square Mall site. There were mixed reactions, but most attendees were fine with paying. Organizers, the Pee Dee Street Rodders, explained that as they get older, they needed to bring in some new leadership to keep the event going for many years to come, and with that change came other decisions, including charging an admission fee. (WMBF) (Myhorrynews)
  4. Candidate Mark McBride has requested that the State Law Enforcement Division open an investigation into allegations of bribery in the 7th Congressional District Race. McBride, formerly mayor of Myrtle Beach, said that a local news blogger called him and offered him $70,000 to drop out of the race and endorse another candidate. The claim also accuses candidate Ken Richardson of being involved in the alleged bribe. Both Richardson and the blogger deny the allegations. SLED opened an investigation at McBride's request. (Myhorrynews)
  5. Rep. Russell Fry is sponsoring a bill to make all candidates running for office in South Carolina pay a filing fee. The bill is one of several election-related bills for the House and Senate. The intention of the bill is to bring fairness to the process. House Bill 3262 passed the house, and now is going on to the Senate. It will need to pass the Senate before going to Governor McMaster's desk. (WBTW)

  • Reader Jane L. asked if there were any events coming up in the area for shredding sensitive documents. I found two events coming soon! The first one is Wednesday, March 23: Free shred event with the Better Business Bureau, at Waccamaw Mall, 3071 Waccamaw Blvd, Myrtle Beach, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Horry County Animal Shelter will also be there, accepting donations. They are used to sticking to each other's side for comfort. Koby and Cali are around 5 years old, and are looking for a new home to call their own. (Facebook)
  • News13's Pet of the Weekend is Donna, a 5-month old kitten available for adoption from Grand Strand Humane Society. She's currently with a foster family, but needs a furever home! Maybe it will be yours! Donna is grey and white, and just adorable! (WBTW)

Alrighty, you're all caught up for Sunday, Grand Strand! I'll see you bright and early Monday for another edition of the Myrtle Beach Daily.

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
