Here are the top three stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The late Rivers Lynch, who died in 2019, is being honored on the Grand Strand. Lynch was a tennis coach at Myrtle Beach High School and was beloved in the community. He led his teams in many championships, earning state titles several times. He also won multiple local and national awards over the years. The Myrtle Beach Tennis Center is being renamed for Coach Lynch on September 21 in a special ceremony. The center is located at 3302 Grissom Parkway. (WMBF)
  2. There were three crashes on Highway 501 over the weekend that closed northbound lanes. Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash near Tanger Outlets at Highway 501 and Factory Stores Boulevard late Saturday night. (WBTW) Also on Saturday night, a crash occurred at Highway 501 and Waccamaw Pines Drive. Injuries were also sustained in that crash. (wpde.com) On Sunday afternoon, a vehicle caught fire on Highway 501 at the Highway 31 interchange. There was no information given on injuries. (WBTW)
  3. North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue was called to the 500 block of South Ocean Boulevard near Tidewater Condos for a structure fire on Saturday night. Crews determined that the fire was contained in the building's electrical room. There were no reports of injuries. (WMBF) (North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue via Facebook)

  • The staff at Horry County Animal Care Center can't seem to catch a break. On the other hand, county law enforcement is dutifully working on animal neglect investigations. HCACC has been closed to the public since August 19 so staff could care for animals taken in from another HCPD case. The center is set to be opening today, August 22, but there has not been an official announcement as of the time of this posting. In the meantime, all adoptions, owner surrenders and stray intakes are on-hold. (Horry County Animal Care Center via Facebook)
  • If you follow Horry County high school football, then My Horry News has got you covered! Check out all the reports of the various teams including Loris, Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, Waccamaw, Aynor and Conway. (MyHorryNews.com)

Thanks for following along and staying informed on this Myrtle Beach Monday. See you all Tuesday morning for another Grand Strand update!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
