Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Federal authorities say that they have identified a number of illegal firearms in Philadelphia that came from Myrtle Beach. The guns were purchased near Myrtle Beach by a 26-year-old Myrtle Beach man, according to an indictment. That man has been charged with conspiracy to deal firearms without a license, and making a false statement to a federally-licensed firearms dealer. He and two others are said to have conspired to transport the guns to Pennsylvania. Some of those firearms were found at crime scenes in northeastern cities. (WMBF)
- The granddaughter of the original owner of the Sea Nymph Motel shared her memories and thoughts about the motel where she spent her childhood as the iconic property became the first of four motel demolitions in the downtown area of Myrtle Beach. Vicky Hucks' grandfather, Jennings Hucks, opened the motel back in the 1960s. The family owned it until a few years ago, before it became abandoned and the city purchased the property. Hucks said she has lots of memories growing up at the Sea Nymph, back when everybody knew everybody and Myrtle Beach had more of a small-town feel. Hucks was able to get the building numbers from the motel before demolition began. She plans to keep one set of numbers and give the second set to her mother. The demolition is part of an oceanfront redevelopment project. (wpde.com)
- In a lawsuit filed last month, an Ohio man says he lost his hearing after a cockroach crawled into his ear while he slept at the Sands Ocean Club Resort in July of 2021. The man, from Glenmont, Ohio, claimed he was woken up by a roach that crawled into his ear, inflicting severe pain. He has incurred medical expenses, pain and discomfort, according to the lawsuit, which accuses the resort of being negligent in cleaning, keeping the area safe, failing to have pest control service, and failing to inspect for cockroaches. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
