Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- The owners of Neal and Pam's Restaurant in Surfside Beach were granted a building permit to rebuild after a fire destroyed the eatery back in July. In a social media post, they remarked that they were "crying tears of joy." The owners had been working with insurance companies, engineers, lawyers and others to acquire a building permit. The community pulled together to help the restaurant employees and owners during the recovery process. Neal and Pam's promises to have a huge party to thank everyone as soon as the venue is open again. (WBTW)(WMBF)
- It's November and a few places in town have already begun their holiday season traditions. The Carolina Opry started its Christmas Special, every night at 7 p.m. with some matinees as well. The show, known as "The Christmas Show of the South" will run through January 1. Up the road a few blocks to the north is the Alabama Theatre's holiday show. That one is known as "The South's Grandest Christmas Show!" The Alabama Theatre show runs now through December 31 every night except Sundays at 7 p.m. There will also be select matinee dates. North Myrtle Beach's "Great Christmas Light Show" will begin November 21 at the NMB Park & Sports Complex and run through December 30 except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. (WBTW) To the south, Brookgreen Gardens' "Nights Of A Thousand Candles" will begin November 26 and will run Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights through January 1, 2023. Enjoy!
- Saturday, November 5 is the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer's taking place at Grand Park in Market Common. Registration is at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies set for 10:45 a.m. (Walk To End Alzheimer's)
- A suspect being held at Long Detention Center allegedly posed as a maintenance worker at a Myrtle Beach motel, held a person at knifepoint and robbed that person according to an arrest warrant. The incident happened on Sunday at the Days Inn on South Ocean Boulevard. The suspect presented himself to the victim as a maintenance worker that needed to fix a plumbing problem. He left the room, returned with a knife and demanded money from the victim. He was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with armed robbery. (WMBF)
- Governor Henry McMaster has requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration to help South Carolina with Hurricane Ian recovery efforts. Damage assessments have been completed and they indicate that 17 homes were destroyed, 232 homes had major damage and 82 homes sustained minor damage from Ian. The storm has cost state and local agencies over $25 million. If the Declaration is granted, FEMA monies will help Horry and Georgetown County residents whose properties were affected by the storm. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
