Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. FedEx is investing $64 million in the Fantasy Harbour district at the site of the former Freestyle Music Park. Horry County Council received documentation on the project during this week's Council meeting. FedEx will pay a discounted tax rate of 6% for 20 years. The company applied for a permit in February for the 251,000 square foot building that will cost about $12 million to construct. FedEx plans to begin operations in time for the holidays. (WBTW)
  2. Plastic zipper bags stuffed with anti-Semitic flyers were found in several neighborhoods throughout Georgetown County this week. The flyers have been strewn across thousands of lawns nationwide this summer and some turned up in Conway and Surfside Beach a few months ago. The zippered bags are reportedly thrown from cars during the early morning hours. Anyone with information or surveillance video of the distribution of the flyers should call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5102. (wpde.com) (WMBF)
  3. Horry County Police are asking the public for information on a missing woman. Esther McDowell, 48, was last seen at the IGA store near Loris in July. She is 5-foot, 6-inches tall and weighs around 120 pounds. Anyone with info should contact HCPD at (843) 915-8477. (WMBF)(WBTW)
  4. City officials in North Myrtle Beach have determined that Hurricane Ian caused approximately $13 million in damages to more than 1,650 properties inside the city limits. Most of the properties affected were located in Cherry Grove and Windy Hill. While 82% of the damaged structures were single-family homes, 13% were multi-family homes and 5% were commercial properties. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
  5. Murrells Inlet and South Strand news: Huntington Beach State Park reopened on Thursday after being closed for almost a week. The park suffered serious damage throughout the property from Hurricane Ian. The reopening was announced on the park's social media pages. With the opening of HBSP, that means all of South Carolina's state parks are now up and running. (WMBF) Also on Thursday, all roads in Garden City reopened. Garden City beach access points also reopened, except for Beach Access 14 at Calhoun Drive. More restoration work needs to happen and officials say the public should expect periodic closures for the foreseeable future while repairs are made. (WBTW)

Patch deal of the day:

Wine lover alert. We found this amazing deal from Splash Wines — an 18-bottle curated selection of reds and whites for fall — for just $69.99. Shipping isn't cheap at $39.95, but that still comes out to just over $6 per bottle. Splash Wines has a money-back guarantee if you don't like the wine and 4.6 out of 5 rating on TrustPilot. So: recommended.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
