Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The City of Myrtle Beach has updated its fireworks ordinance to comply with a new South Carolina law. The new ordinance allows fireworks on private property. There are some limits. Fireworks are not allowed on the beach, or on public property. Professional fireworks displays approved by the Fire Marshal are permitted. (wpde.com)
  2. In case you missed the Horry County winners in the Primary runoff: David Cox won the school board chairperson position, Johnny Gardner narrowly won over Mark Lazarus as Council chair, thus keeping his seat. Grand Strand attorney Val Guest won the GOP nomination for South Carolina House seat 106. Real estate professional Michael Masciarelli, a.k.a. Mikey Mash, won the District 8 seat on Horry County Council. (MyHorryNews.com)
  3. A motorcyclist was killed in a collision on Tuesday night near River Oaks Drive when their Harley-Davidson collided with a Hyundai SUV. The driver of the SUV was attempting to make a left turn when the collision occurred. The two people in the SUV were not injured. The name of the person who died has not been released. (MyHorryNews.com) (wpde.com)
  4. Myrtle Beach area schools may be getting new active shooter technology called Acoustic Threat Detection. The additional level of security is dependent on the receipt of a grant to fund 19 acoustic threat detectors and some pan tilt zoom cameras. The program detects a gunshot, locates the threat, and notifies law enforcement of an active shooter situation. (wpde.com)
  5. City cameras were used to locate a man accused of stabbing a woman near 3rd Avenue North and the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. The incident occurred Saturday night, and the woman was stabbed in the neck by the assailant. She was not able to identify the attacker, but cameras used by the city helped spot him. He was located and booked into Long Detention Center, charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
