Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- North Myrtle Beach City Council has approved plans for a new housing development along Little River Neck Road. The parcel of land is along the Intracoastal Waterway and will bring 250 homes to the neighborhood, with a private marina, 50 boat slips, a restaurant, and a ship store. Residents expressed concerns about traffic in the "one way in, one way out" road. Construction is scheduled to start about a year from now. (WMBF) (WPDE)
- A woman kidnapped from Summerville, South Carolina is back with her family. A Myrtle Beach man is in custody at Georgetown County Detention Center after a customer at Pawleys Island Publix complained to the store manager that a man was trying to lure her into a camper in the store's parking lot. Georgetown County Sheriff's deputies responded to the call, and found the camper in the Food Lion parking lot not far from the Publix. Inside the van they discovered the man, who was wanted for kidnapping, and they rescued the kidnapping victim. (WPDE)
- The Department of Health and Environmental Control is ringing the bell announcing high demand for COVID testing ahead of the holidays. One testing site at Myrtle Beach Airport has been experiencing long lines for testing already, mainly for people going on cruises or traveling internationally. The agency urges anyone who wants test results in-hand before Christmas Eve should get tested no later than December 18th, and expect processing delays. (WBTW)
- Some South Carolina senators are pushing legislation that would help people who were fired in connection with vaccine mandates get some financial compensation. The bill proposes that if a person in South Carolina was fired for not receiving a COVID-19 shot, they would be eligible for unemployment benefits. As it stands now, people fired for that reason are not entitled to unemployment compensation. The lawmakers say they are against mandates, but not against the shot. They say it should be up to an individual to make the decision about taking a vaccine. (WBTW)
- The well-known charity, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, has paid off three mortgages on the homes of fallen South Carolina officers. The mortgages of North Myrtle Beach Sgt. Gordon Best, who died in the line of duty on January 1, 2021, and Detective James Giery of Myrtle Beach, who died in 2016 of cancer related to his service with NYPD on 9-11 when he was an officer in New York, were paid off by the foundation this week. The mortgage of fallen Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Price's home in Marion County was also paid. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
