Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- The family of Tristan Vereen, who was shot and killed during a police-involved shooting, are calling for his death to be ruled a homicide. The family's lawyers say Trooper W.B. Benton had a history of misconduct, they say Vereen was wrongfully pulled over for a cracked windshield, and they want charges brought against Benton. They have asked the coroner to declare the death a homicide. Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson has indicated that he cannot make any decisions on the case yet, as it is still under investigation by SLED. (WMBF)
- If you follow the music scene in Myrtle Beach (how could you miss it?), you know that it is just bursting with so many local artists performing in and around town on any given day or night. A major development is happening for Grand Strand musicians: a new recording studio. Arcadia Studios is set to open on Seaboard Street, and the management plans to offer not just audio recording, but also videography, photography and editing services as well. (WBTW)
- Fall Bike Week is mostly all fun and games, but some accidents have occurred. In Myrtle Beach, a motorcycle and car collided near Seaboard Street and Commons Avenue. Two people were taken to the hospital while a third person signed a medical waiver. Another crash happened in Little River on Highway 9 at Sea Mountain Highway, involving one motorcycle. One person was taken to the hospital from that crash. There is no information on the extent of injuries or the condition of the injured people at this time. (WBTW) see also (WBTW)
- Governor McMaster will be in Myrtle Beach on Monday, October 4 to announce recommendations for Interstate 73 funding. The Governor's Office sent out invitations to local legislator, including State Representative Case Brittain (R-Myrtle Beach) who is looking forward to attending the event. Brittain has heard that $300 million is an amount being suggested to fund the highway project. Brittain is the chairperson for the National I-73/74/75 Corridor Association. The event will take place at Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce headquarters, and the Governor will be accompanied by Christy Hall, South Carolina Secretary of Transportation. (WMBF)
- SCDHEC has reported that fewer than 1,000 COVID-19 cases were confirmed last week in Horry County, indicating a 20% drop in cases. Similarly, the number of school children who are in quarantine has gone down significantly, and there are no schools in virtual learning mode. Horry County hospitals are 89.7% occupied as of the time of this report. (MyHorryNews.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
