Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach caught fire on Sunday. Sprinklers were activated and the fire was contained in one unit on the third floor of the resort. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, and no one was injured. The cause of the flames was not revealed at the time of posting. (wpde.com)
  2. The 17th annual Murrells Inlet Oyster Roast attracted a huge crowd on Saturday at the MarshWalk. The seafood capital of South CarolinaMurrells Inlet's slogan — lived up to its name. The off-season yearly event draws locals and tourists alike. Generally, this is a slower time of year, and this favorite event of oyster lovers near and far gives South Strand businesses a much-needed holiday boost. (WBTW)
  3. The first ever Winter Wonderland at The Beach festival is opening on Friday in downtown Myrtle Beach. The fest will bring some holiday-themed light shows and displays to Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place every night through January 2nd. (WBTW)
  4. Down the road in a southerly direction, Brookgreen Gardens is kicking off its Nights of a Thousand Candles extravaganza on Friday as well. Brookgreen's festivities will also run through January 2nd. On weekend nights, there will be live entertainment. Food will be available, and the lighting of the trees will occur every evening at 6:45 p.m. The event operates regardless of the weather. Social distancing and ticket limits are in place, and tickets must be purchased in advance. (Brookgreen.org)
  5. The Chanticleer Regiment has been formally invited to perform in London's New Year's Parade in 2023. The CCU marching band received the invitation from parade founder Bob Bone, and the chairman of the London Mayor's Association, Steve Summers, who both flew over from England to present the invitation to the band at Saturday's tailgate party. CCU president, Dr. Michael Benson, was also on hand. The band is doing fundraising for the trip. (WMBF)

  • The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach: Kali will fool you on her age! She is ten years old but still plays like a young sprout! Kali loves to play and zoom around. She's full of love and kindness, and she will make an excellent family dog. It breaks our hearts that Kali hasn't found her furever home yet! (Facebook)

  • Many of us enjoy the neighboring beaches of Brunswick County, NC, in addition to our own sandy shores here in Myrtle Beach. Saturday night, a large blaze engulfed seven buildings, including five homes, on Bald Head Island. The island is automobile-free, and only reachable by private ferry from Southport. The U.S. Coast Guard transported firefighters to the island to help control the fire. Four firefighters had minor injuries, but no one else was injured. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
