Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- The Myrtle Beach man killed by Georgetown police was a suspect in a gas station robbery that occurred on the same day, according to investigators. The full circumstances of the two incidents have not yet been released. James Robert Frazier was shot and killed near Palm and Church streets in Georgetown in an officer-involved shooting. Earlier in the day, an armed robbery occurred at Marathon Gas Station. Police had been searching for an armed robber at the time of the shooting. Frazier was identified as the robbery suspect. Frazier was armed with a knife, authorities said. (WBTW)
- Amid rumors of an "active shooter" at Ocean Lakes Family Campground, the park issued a statement to set the record straight on what actually happened. According to the campground's statement, their security team was investigating a person regarding a stolen bicycle late Tuesday night. The individual pulled a handgun from their backpack as the security team cleared the area around the campground's beachfront. Horry County Police arrived on-scene, apprehended and arrested the individual. (wpde.com)
- Pounaras Cosmetic Dentistry in Myrtle Beach was the victim of postal mail theft, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department and the U.S. Postal Service. Dr. Vasilios Pounaras arrived at his office Tuesday to find his office's mailbox open and empty. His security cameras recorded an individual picking the lock of the mailbox and taking the mail. Pounaras says this is not the first mail theft his office has experienced. (WMBF)
- The town of Atlantic Beach is receiving a $50,000 grant to preserve the community's history and artifacts. The grant is a one-year project planning award to support the "Amplifying the Story of the Pearl" project. The grant comes from the Donnelly Foundation. (WMBF)
- The folks at Alligator Adventure in North Myrtle Beach are working with Dr. Jarrett Lark, a local snake bite expert, to educate new staffers at Grand Strand Medical Center on how to treat venomous snake bites. The new residents began training on July 1, and are learning the exotic treatment because a significant number of snake bite cases come into GSMC regularly. Our region has seven varieties of venomous snakes. (wpde.com)

Maybe its name should be Kia! (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
