Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- An early-morning fire on Sunday at Ocean Lakes Campground in Surfside Beach damaged eleven home units and displaced three residents. Two sites were completely destroyed by the blaze. One other unit had extensive damage, while the remaining eight units had fire and heat exposure. The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross and Ocean Lakes management. One person had smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene, but there were no injuries. Nearly 70 first responders from five fire departments assisted in tackling the blaze. (WMBF)
- A house fire at Villena Drive on Sunday was doused by two bystanders who helped out at the scene before firefighters arrived. Horry County Fire Rescue applauded the pair, and thanked them for their help. There were no injuries. (WPDE)
- A building on the 9000 block of Shore Drive was evacuated as a precaution after a reported gas leak in Myrtle Beach. Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the call, and a utility crew arrived to repair the leak. There were no injuries. (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach police have charged a second person in the January 5th shooting death of a Bilal Harris. The shooting occurred at Mr. Joe White Avenue and Grey Street, claiming the life of Harris, 42, who died of multiple gunshot wounds at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Another man was also charged in connection with the crime shortly after it happened, making this the second person arrested in the case. (WBTW)

- In case you didn't notice... crews were out putting salt on the roads this weekend! Something those of us from the northern states think of as normal, but a rare sight to see here on the Grand Strand! SCDOT brought in 300 tons of salt for road treatment. (WMBF)
- Nextdoor Neighbor, Market Common: Little Free Library (update to Charter # 80495) - LOOK! at this beautiful collection of children's classics (albeit fun to read again as adults) donated by a book fairy to our LFL. Black Beauty, for one example, was first published in 1877. These lovely hardbound books will be feathered in to our LFL over the coming weeks with other favorites. So, stop by! (Nextdoor)
- Melissa Jefferson of Carvers Bay High School and Jermaisha Arnold of Socastee High School each set new records in track and field for Coastal Carolina University on Saturday. Jefferson set a record in the 200-meter dash, while Arnold broke the record in the 400-meters. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
