Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Over three thousand people went to Myrtle Beach Pelicans Ballpark on Saturday to participate in ABC15's Pizza Palooza. The event included toy donations for Toys for Tots, food donations for Lowcountry Food Bank, and, at the last minute, monetary donations that will be sent to the states affected by the devastating tornado that hit on Friday night. A dozen pizza places participated in the event that started out as a joke uttered by ABC 15's Chief Meteorologist, Ed Piotrowski, when it was revealed that the Grand Strand had zero hurricane impacts during the 2021 hurricane season. - Three charter schools are set to apply for state approval in 2022 with locations on the Grand Strand. The Athlos Academy, the Atlantic Collegiate Academy, and the Horry County Acceleration Academy are all intending to apply to the state, according to Carol Aust of the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina. Charter schools have become an attractive choice for public schools amid the pandemic and a desire for alternative models of learning across the nation. The schools' applications must be submitted by February 1, 2022. (WBTW)
- South Carolina's high school football season came to a fun end this past weekend during the Touchstone Energy Bowl in Myrtle Beach. The South team was the winner, and some great moves from a few Grand Strand players did not go unnoticed. Carlton Terry II of Conway was named the South team's offensive MVP. The South Carolina Mr. Football crown went to Hilton Head Island linebacker Jaylen Sneed, who has committed to playing at Notre Dame. (WMBF) See also: (MyHorryNews)
- A small fire broke out at the popular Boardwalk Billy's restaurant in North Myrtle Beach Saturday around noon. Firefighters arrived quickly, and the fire was controlled. The cause of the fire was a faulty wall outlet which was repaired right away. The restaurant remained open for business with minor damage. (WBTW)
- Two people were hurt in Pawleys Island in a multi-vehicle accident near Ocean Highway and Litchfield Drive on Saturday. The crash involved multiple vehicles, one of which hit a building. Roads were closed, and traffic had to detour onto Kings River Road. There is no word on the condition of the injured people. Midway Fire Rescue responded to the wreck. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
