Here are the top three stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Horry County police are searching for a missing woman. Carrie Jackson, 63, was last seen Friday afternoon at her home just outside of Loris on Stephanie Lane. Carrie is 5-foot-3 and about 145 pounds with shoulder length black/gray hair. Anyone with info is asked to call dispatch at (843) 248-1520. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
  2. A waterspout on the South Strand came ashore at Pawleys Island on Saturday. The same storm knocked out power to almost 1,000 customers in the Garden City area and produced a tornado warning at Little River. All was clear by 1 p.m. and there appeared to be no injuries or damage around the areas. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
  3. Approximately 675 runners and walkers participated in the Tunnel To Towers 9/11 5K on Saturday. The annual run/walk honors New York City firefighter Stephen Siller who died on September 11, 2001. The event is named after the route he took to rescue people on that day — from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. Two other T2T 5Ks happened in South Carolina on Saturday in Columbia and Greenville. (WBTW)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

This great photo of a shrimp boat called Little Man was taken by reader Dan Blake outside Greg Norman's restaurant in Barefoot Landing. Thanks for the nice shot, Dan!

  • News13's Pet of the Weekend is Willy Wonka, a 3-year-old mixed-breed dog that you can adopt from Grand Strand Humane Society. You may recognize Willy because he was returned to GSHS after being adopted last year. His adopters did not have enough time for Willy. He is a very energetic boy and great with kids and other dogs. He has great habits from being house-trained and the shelter would like to adopt him out quickly so he doesn't lose all that great training. Besides, he's beautiful and would make a great family pet! (WBTW)
  • Kawanis Club is looking to open a chapter for young readers in Carolina Forest. The international organization already has six chapters on the Grand Strand. The Carolina Forest chapter would be the seventh, focusing on getting local kids interested in reading. The club is having a meeting September 19 at 5:15 at Carolina Forest Library. (WMBF)

You're officially in the loop for Sunday! I'll see you bright and early Monday morning for another installment of the Myrtle Beach Daily.

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
