Here's a check on today's weather:

Bright and sunny skies. High: 84 Low: 70.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. An Horry County Police officer is on administrative leave after a deadly shooting that happened Saturday afternoon. The state trooper was conducting a traffic stop near Highway 905 and Highway 22 when the suspect drove away. After the suspect crashed their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, they got into a tussle with the officer who tried to arrest the person. During the scuffle, the suspect was shot by the officer. Both the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital with injuries. The injured suspect died at Grand Strand Medical Center later that night. SLED is investigating. (WBTW)
  2. Some Grand Strand veterans from the Knights of Columbus-Grand Strand Assembly held a 9/11 memorial at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet. During the event, the group presented a folded flag to the local family of an EMS worker, Ryan McCormick, who died in 2008 due to complications from working at ground zero on 9/11. (WMBF)
  3. A 29-year-old woman whose dying wish was to meet country musician Luke Bryan did not live to see that dream come true. Conway resident, Becky Bliss, was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy over a decade ago, but was ineligible for a heart transplant. The community in Horry County recently organized a card-sending campaign for Becky, and she received get-well cards from all over the U.S. She had two people she wanted to meet: Luke Bryan, and local meteorologist Ed Piotrowski. Bliss was able to meet Piotrowski about two weeks ago, but did not get the chance to meet Luke Bryan. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
