Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, a 2-alarm fire in Little River with an unknown cause engulfed the popular Windjammer Pub in flames. The roadside bar, described by regulars as a place where everybody knows your name, is on the North and South Carolina state line, near Vereen Gardens. Crews from North Myrtle Beach and Calabash, North Carolina were on scene to help Horry County Fire Rescue. The fire was contained in less than two hours, there were no injuries, and an investigation is underway. (WPDE)
- A federal judge has declared that South Carolina cannot enforce a ban on mask mandates in schools, citing that it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. Judge Mary Gieger Lewis says Proviso 1.108 discriminates against children with disabilities, unnecessarily segregating disabled students from others, and excluding them from participating in classroom education. Lewis says disabled students need to be given reasonable accommodation to allow them to attend classes. Governor McMaster's spokesperson, Brian Symmes, said the governor disagrees with the decision, and thinks parents should decide for their children. (WBTW)
- Yet another Myrtle Beach lottery player has won a decent-sized jackpot. The player won $10,000 on Mega Millions, and missed the full jackpot by one number. The winning ticket was sold at the Food Lion grocery store at 3501 Belle Terre Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. (WMBF)
- Surfside Beach Town Hall is moving to its new location by the end of October. Town Administrator Bill Shanahan said final tweaks to the former Coldwell Banker building on Highway 17 Business are being made, and then they can begin moving equipment and furnishings. The old building was closed in August due to airborne mold and structural issues. (MyHorryNews.com)
- The Horry County Board of Education is participating in a class action lawsuit against the e-cigarette company, JUUL. The board joins hundreds of schools nationwide in the lawsuit that alleges the company targeted youth with flavored product and trendy packaging. The suit also claims JUUL falsely marketed its product as being safer than tobacco products. HC is seeking damages, citing that the products have caused harm, health problems and addiction in students. Florence One Schools joined the lawsuit earlier this year. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
