Here's a look at Saturday's weather:

Some sun, then clouds; breezy. High: 65 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. One person is in custody after barricading themselves inside the Ocean Park Resort on Thursday. Myrtle Beach Police negotiated with the person while other people nearby were moved to safe locations. There was a standoff, but it was not apparent what was at issue. Police say the community is not in any danger related to this incident. (WBTW)
  2. A Conway residential fire is under investigation, after crews responded to Carolina Road late Thursday night. When crews arrived, they rescued two dogs from the dwelling. The pooches were given oxygen after being carried from the house. There were no human injuries, and Conway Fire Department helped Horry County Fire Rescue at the scene. (WMBF)
  3. The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach has added a Canine Enrichment Coordinator to its staff. Kristen Belshaw is the owner of Sunny Dogs Training Company. The shelter and Belshaw are working together on a nationwide program called Dogs Playing For Life, designed to help shelter dogs be more trainable and give them happier dispositions. By getting more playful, dogs' behavior can change for the better, making shelter dogs more appealing to potential adopters. (WPDE)
  4. Researchers say microplastics might be hurting Grand Strand marine wildlife. Between getting tangled in plastic packaging and actually ingesting the plastics, fish and other ocean creatures are feeling the pinch of plastic pollution in area waters. Professor Dan Able, of the Marine Science department at Coastal Carolina University says he's seen evidence of the plastic problem, that affects oceans worldwide, right here in Winyah Bay. (WBTW)
  5. Coastal Carolina University leaders are proposing a new college, called the College of Health and Human Performance, to meet the demand for healthcare workers. Right now, the nursing, health admin, and public health majors are with the Gupta College of Science at CCU. By combining the science programs with the healthcare curriculum the school hopes to meet the needs of the ever-growing demand for skilled healthcare personnel. (Myhorrynews)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
