Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Bon Jovi's original bassist, Alec Such, died earlier this month at his home in Horry County. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said that Such asked a friend who was staying with him for assistance in his home in the middle of the night. When that person went back to check on him later, Alec Such was dead. Reports show the cause of death as natural causes. Alec Such was a founding member of Bon Jovi, and introduced Richie Sambora to the band. He left the band in 1994, but attended Bon Jovi's induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 with the other group members. Alec Such was 70 years old. (Nine.com)
- Avelo Airlines is offering flights from Myrtle Beach to New Haven, Connecticut at 50% off for purchases made through June 23. The deal would be for flights departing by November 9. Go to the airline's website and use the promo code HALFOFF to get the discount. (WBTW)
- The Stage Left theater in Market Common is having its final curtain call on June 26. The decision to close the performance venue came after a rent increase underscored the theater's struggles for the past two years, starting with closing during the pandemic. (wpde.com)
- A Carolina Forest teenager got the thrill of a lifetime when he shared the limelight with Keith Urban at the Carolina Country Music Festival last weekend. Alec Youngblood, 17, held up a sign in the crowd that read "Can I play your guitar?" which Urban spotted. The country star invited Youngblood up on stage where he played one of Urban's hits in front of the nearly 40,000-person audience. (WBTW)

Are you a Myrtle Beach resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
Reader Dennis Masino grabbed this pic of a young fox on top of a roof in Myrtle Beach! The fox eventually headed into nearby woods, using an outdoor stairway to climb down. Thanks for the great photo, Dennis!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
