Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Horry County Sheriff's Office has announced the death of longtime Horry County auditor, Lois Eargle. In addition to her service as auditor, she was the first female to run for state legislature, and served four terms in the House of Representatives. Eargle was auditor of the county from 1993 through 2021. (WBTW) In a press release from current Horry County auditor, Beth Calhoun, the office expressed its sadness over the death of Eargle, and thanked her for her service. (Horry County Auditor's Office)
- There is an update on the two-vehicle crash on Highway 90 that happened Sunday afternoon: a 13-month-old child died as a result of her injuries sustained in that crash. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 90 and Lee Street in Conway. A person driving a 2015 Hyundai SUV crossed the center line and hit a 2004 Nissan. Seven people were injured in the crash, and the child, Zalisa Daniels of Longs, died at the hospital. (WMBF)
- Danny Smith, a Murrells Inlet chef placed 13th in the 2021 World Food Championship. The tournament was held in Dallas, and Smith's entry was in the Recipe Category. After placing 13th, he was then part of another portion of the tournament called the Super Qualifier Golden Ticket. Chefs cooked sliders for that event, and he placed 5th. Smith is looking forward to the 2022 tournament! (WPDE)
- A group of community members met outside Conway Medical Center on Monday to protest President Biden's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The protesters made it clear that they were not protesting the hospital itself, but wanted to show support for healthcare workers employed there. The Medical Center issued a statement saying that it intends to follow federal government guidelines, and will work with employees who have approved medical or religious exemptions. (WPDE)
- The American Red Cross is pleading with the public to donate blood ahead of predictions of a severe winter flu season. Blood is already in short supply, and it is concerned that the winter flu season will exacerbate the problem. The organization needs to collect 10,000 units of blood nationwide to get ahead of the shortage. Incentives, including a $10 Amazon gift card, are being offered through the month of November. Spokesperson, Mandy McWherter, also stated that a person's COVID-19 vaccination status does not impact their eligibility to donate blood. (WBTW) List of local Red Cross blood drives: (Patch)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
