Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. In a lawsuit filed last week by a former employee, OrthoSC, Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Dr. Gene Massey, Grand Strand Surgical Specialists, and several others are named as defendants and accused of intentionally sabotaging a residency program in order to protect an apparent monopoly in the region. The ex-employee, Dr. Scott F. Duncan, alleges that a conspiracy occurred and is seeking damages for breach of contract, and a jury trial. (WBTW)
  2. The Elks Lodge in Murrells Inlet boxed up 75 Thanksgiving meals for that many Georgetown families on Monday. The lodge works in conjunction with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the Georgetown School District Special Needs Commission, as well as ECHO for veterans in need each year on the project. Each family gets a 10-pound turkey as well as stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, and mac 'n' cheese. (WPDE)
  3. Tidelands Health launched its new "Lights of Love" campaign that accepts donations to light up a holiday tree at their various locations. Donations can be made in honor of a loved one, and the money goes to scholarships for students in the healthcare field. Donations are being accepted now through January 15, 2022. (WMBF)
  4. Two unrelated incidents occurred at approximately the same time on Sunday afternoon, involving people being hit by cars in Myrtle Beach. One incident occurred in Market Common where a vehicle and a bicycle collided. There were non-life-threatening injuries to one person. Another incident happened on Highway 15 and involved a city employee who was not working at the time. Local authorities are investigating both incidents. (WBTW)
  5. South Carolina lawmaker, Wendell Gilliard (D - Charleston) wants to form a Coastal Structural Stability Study Committee to review the safety and stability of high-rise structures along the Carolina coast. Gilliard filed a house resolution inspired by the building collapse in Surfside, Florida that shed some light the condition of multi-level apartment buildings on the coast. His focus is on the Grand Strand and the Charleston peninsula. (WPDE)
