Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- South Carolina State Offices are closed today in observance of "Confederate Memorial Day," an official holiday observed by several southern states to remember those who died serving in the Confederate forces. The holiday is observed on May 10 every year in South Carolina. In the future, state employees may have the choice of taking another day off instead of Confederate Memorial Day if a bill passes the SC House. The bill passed the Senate unanimously, but has been stalled in the House committee. (WBTW)

- Grand Strand restaurants are seeing significant growth, and several are expanding. The owner of Manta Steak and Seafood Sushi Bar wants to make a sushi spot on the beach. Dagwood's Deli is also expanding, having opened two more locations in North Myrtle Beach near Barefoot Landing, and in Surfside Beach. The owner of Dagwood's credits his establishment's loyal following that started at its location on Mr. Joe White Avenue. Two new eateries are set to open soon: The Black Drum Brewery, and The Hangout at Broadway At The Beach. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
