Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce has announced that a phishing scam is going around to SC residents. The scam looks like a text message that links to a website that looks like the login screen of the SCDEW MyBenefits Portal that people use for Unemployment Insurance benefits, but shows a completely different URL. The message asks the recipient to click the link to update a payment method. SCDEW advises anyone who gets this message to ignore it and do not click the link. (wpde.com)
  2. Myrtle Beach International Airport will receive a $2.2 million federal grant to remove and rebuild a taxiway. The airport is one of 20 in South Carolina that will receive part of a grant totaling around $19 million. (WBTW)
  3. North Myrtle Beach golf cart owners attended Monday night's City Council meeting to air their concerns about the ban on golf carts at the Music On Main concerts this summer. The meeting went on for a long time, and many of the golf cart owners had to leave before speaking because they can't be on the roads after 8 p.m. A week ago, the group was not allowed to address Council at all. Business owners say they get a lot of business from all concertgoers, including golf cart attendees. No action was taken, and the ban remains in place.(Myhorrynews)
  4. Members of Myrtle Beach's LGBTQ+ community are scheduled to peacefully protest at Tuesday's Horry County Council meeting, as of the time of this posting. Some community members will be giving public comments at the meeting. County council had initially deemed the month of June as Pride Month, but then a few weeks later voted to revoke the resolution. Council began seeing backlash from the community, and Councilman Johnny Vaught said none of the council members realized that the resolution had been connected to the LGBTQ+ community because the description read as "Pride Month." (WBTW) Update: Rallyers voiced concerns at the meeting but Council did not comment. (Eric Richards on Twitter)
  5. The Town of Atlantic Beach made about $25,000 from BikeFest, after expenses were factored in, from revenue of more than $80,000. The numbers were announced Monday by town leaders. (WBTW) The town council also gave unanimous approved to Atlantic Beach's 2023 budget, in the amount of approximately $918,000. (WBTW)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Today's gorgeous photo comes from Mary Culbreth who snapped this pic of the sky after a storm in Murrells Inlet outside the Inlet Square Mall. The photo is totally unedited, taken with an iPhone 6. Nice pic, Mary, thank you!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
