Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- A Forestbrook family continues to search for a man reported missing and endangered on Friday morning. Ralph Whitehead, 61, was reported missing near Camden Drive. He moved there four months ago, and his family says he is not familiar with the area. Whitehead went out for a walk that morning, and they have not seen him since. Police and the family are asking for assistance from the community, particularly folks who may have outdoor cameras. The police department has a team of bloodhounds searching for the man. Whitehead is 5-foot-2 with brown hair and "piercing blue beautiful eyes." He speaks with a heavy British accent, recently underwent open-heart surgery, and may be experiencing PTSD symptoms. When last seen, he was wearing black pants and a blue-toned gray t-shirt. Call HCPD with info (843) 248-1520. (WPDE) (WBTW)
- The 17th annual Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge for Special Olympics drew hundreds of people to the frigid beach on Saturday, and raised more than $75,000. Plunge director Marcus Rhodes reported that 500 "plungers" took part in the chilly event that raised money for sports training and competitions for the Special Olympics. - More than 50 people traveled from all around the country to celebrate Virginia Audrey Stafford's 110th birthday in North Myrtle Beach on Saturday. Stafford was born in 1912 and has been through all of the most significant events and innovations of the 20th and 21st centuries, including BOTH World Wars! Her huge family calls her "Gram." Congratulations, Virginia! (Live 5 News WCSC)
- South Carolina Lt. Governor Pamela Evette toured Myrtle Beach Christian Academy on Friday, as she continues to work with Governor McMaster to get state funding for private schools. The academy's administration thanked the governors for keeping schools open throughout the pandemic. The academy has seen drastic enrollment growth in the last two years, and used some CARES funds to create portable "classrooms" to help with the extra student load. Some educators in the state are not in favor of McMaster's planned legislation. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
