Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- A person involved in a motorcycle crash near the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort at Grande Dunes has sustained life-threatening injuries. The crash involved a motorcycle and an SUV, and happened Monday in the late afternoon. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but there is no word on their condition as of the time of this posting. (WBTW)
- For the second time in about a month, a 17-year-old high school athlete from Florence was killed in a shooting in Horry County. Joshua McPherson was shot and killed in an off-campus apartment near Coastal Carolina University early Sunday morning. McPherson had a promising career in football, and played for the team at Wilson High School. Police have not yet made any arrests. The incident comes one month after another Florence 17-year-old athlete, DyQuayvon Dickens, was shot and killed in Myrtle Beach. (wpde.com)
- Monday morning, Coastal Carolina University sent out an alert to students about another incident, this time at the Patriots Hollow Apartments off Highway 544 across from the CCU campus. The alert said there was a suspicious person with a gun. A second alert was sent out very quickly stating that the situation was clear and there was no threat. A spokesperson for Conway PD said police detained a person, and there were no injuries. (WMBF)
- On Sunday, North Myrtle Beach Police officers removed an alligator from the ocean shoreline. Beachgoers reported that the freshwater animal was in a tide pool, and a crowd had gathered. NMB Animal Control and workers from SCDNR and NMB Ocean Rescue were able to capture the alligator and it was relocated, unharmed, to another area. Authorities want to remind people to always give animals that are out of their natural habitat a wide berth because the creature is usually confused or frightened. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
- The NTSB is working on determining the cause of the single-engine plane crash that took the life of pilot David Flading. An investigator from the agency is here to document and examine the aircraft. The investigator will look for radar data, weather reports, maintenance records, and the medical records of the pilot. A preliminary report will be ready in about 15 days, but the full investigation can take up to two years to complete. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
Tuesday's pic of the day comes in from Brian and Susan Witherel, who sent in three photos of their kids at the beach, and called them "one, two, three little Newtons". This mermaid is having a great time in the sand! Thanks for the photos of such cuties, Witherel family!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
