Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Fallen North Myrtle Beach Police officer Gordon Best was a nature lover and enjoyed fishing. On Monday, a bridge over the Waccamaw River Swamp was named the Sergeant Gordon Best Memorial Bridge in a dedication ceremony attended by fellow officers, government officials, family and friends. (WBTW)
  2. City of North Myrtle Beach officials posted reminders on the city's social media channels that there is a South Carolina state law prohibiting use of golf carts after 8 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time. Golf carts may be driven during the day, within four miles of home or business, on secondary roads. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
  3. There may have been an audible sigh of relief at SC gas pumps as gasoline prices dropped by about 7.2 cents per gallon in South Carolina last week. The national average is slightly under $5 per gallon, while SC's prices are landing at around $4.50 per gallon. Prices had been steadily increasing for the past nine weeks. (WMBF)
  4. Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Garden City had to shut down its food pantry last week because it ran out of food. Congregation members donated more food, but there was only enough to last a day or so. In 2021, the pantry fed upwards of 600-800 people per month. In May, that number was 1,700 people. This is the first time ever that the pantry has had to close down in its several-year history. Supply chain issues and a lack of donations has had a trickle-down effect that caused the pantry's shelves to go bare. Details on when and where to donate are on the church's website. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
