Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. SkyBar in North Myrtle Beach, via the ACLU of South Carolina, has filed a lawsuit against the city. The suit says the City of North Myrtle Beach is violating free speech and expression with its new noise ordinance. The lawsuit also suggests that the ordinance's vagueness leads to discriminatory enforcement of the rule. SkyBar was ticketed several times under a previous version of the ordinance and has gotten several warnings under the new rule. SkyBar is seeking a stop to the enforcement of the ordinance. (ABC NEWS 4) (WMBF)
  2. An American Airlines flight from Washington, D.C. to Charlotte, North Carolina diverted to Myrtle Beach late Tuesday night due to severe weather in Charlotte. The diversion happened around 9:30 p.m. The plane had 127 passengers on board. Passengers had to stay in Myrtle Beach overnight and they were provided with meal and hotel vouchers. (WBTW)
  3. Brother Shuckers, the popular restaurant in Carolina Forest, is closing its doors permanently. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the restaurant on its Facebook page, giving reasons of staffing shortages and increased supply prices. The eatery has been in business for a decade. (WMBF)
  4. The U.S. Postal Service says it hopes to reopen the Longs Post Office in early 2023. The facility was destroyed by a fire last year and that blaze is still under investigation. There has been a mobile unit on the property since August of 2021 so community members do not have to make the trek into North Myrtle Beach for postal needs. (WBTW)
  5. The City of Conway is considering a downtown "alcohol consumption zone" that would allow people to walk between restaurants with alcoholic beverages in-hand. The City Council will vote on the proposal later in July. The city sometimes allows carry-out drinks during certain events within a specific zone of the downtown area. They are considering making that zone permanent. (Myhorrynews)

Squirrel! Today's adorable pic was taken by 6-year-old Madeline Clark, whose grandfather, Doug, sent in the photo. Great shot, Madeline!

From my notebook:

  • Check out these properties currently on the market in the Myrtle Beach area. All of these are having an open house coming up soon! (Myrtle Beach Patch)
  • Law enforcement is warning the Grand Strand community about a fake t-shirt scam. The scam is coming through as a text message claiming that police departments are selling shirts with a discount of $10 offered if the recipient clicks a link. Local police departments want everyone to know that they do not send out texts and they are not selling t-shirts. Do not click on the link. Block or report the sender as a scammer and delete the text message. (WMBF)
  • The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach: Megan the hound dog has been in the shelter for almost two years. She needs a home. Megan can be "clingy" because she has separation anxiety. She has been adopted from HSNMB a few times, but was returned because of her clinginess. Megan just needs a human family to love. She adores children but needs to be the only dog in her potential home. Megan weighs 40 pounds and is about 5 years old. Call 843-249-4948 to schedule an appointment to meet Megan. • Have you ever wondered which dog breeds are the most famous on social media? The results of this study from UMass might surprise you: it's the mixed breed! But those of us who are mutt parents already knew that! Fun fact: I've been a dog and cat blogger for almost 20 years (and was a pioneer of the "pet influencer" movement on social media)! (Dog Breeds Most Likely to Become Insta-Famous via CenturyLinkQuote.com)
  • Watching TV the other morning I happened to catch an announcement about News13's Morning Mug Giveaway. I thought it was cool, and wanted to share it here. If you're a fan of News13 This Morning, you can enter to win a pair of coffee mugs showing the "mugs" of the show's hosts James, Patsy and Aaron. Giveaway made possible by Famous Toastery. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
