Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- A Conway woman has been charged with attempted murder, pointing firearms at a person and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after a shooting last week in Myrtle Beach. The incident occurred on Spivey Avenue when police were called after the woman allegedly shot at a victim from inside an automobile. Officers found two ammunition casings on the road. City cameras assisted authorities in tracking the suspect. She was arrested when police conducted a traffic stop and a handgun was found inside the vehicle. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
- A Delaware-based construction company has filed a $42 million lawsuit against Horry County and the South Carolina Department of Transportation regarding the Carolina Bays Parkway extension. The suit alleges breach of contract, negligence, interference and breach of implied warranty pertinent to the four-mile extension of Highway 31 from Highway 544 to Highway 707. The company, Flatiron Constructors, Inc., says the defendants hindered its ability to complete the work by not sticking to industry standard deadlines and other issues. (WBTW)
- Is it time for a new job? Businesses all around the Grand Strand are looking to fill openings. Patch and ZipRecruiter have put together the latest job listings in the Myrtle Beach area for this week. (Myrtle Beach Patch)
- Southwest Airlines has announced that it will be the presenting sponsor of Winter Wonderland at the Beach. The announcement came in a press release Monday from the airlines' VP of Marketing & Digital Experience, Bill Tierney. The sponsorship will begin November 17 and end December 23. - Tidelands Health is again awarding scholarships with its Lights of Love holiday campaign this year. In 2021, the organization gave five $5,000 scholarships to five employees. The scholarships are available to any employee of Tidelands, not just clinicians. There are also some $1,000 scholarships for high school students. A minimum donation of $10 gets a light illuminated on one of the Tidelands holiday trees at various Tidelands locations on the Grand Strand. Donations can be made through January 15. (wpde.com)

From my notebook:
- Loris-based dog groomer Zamari Thomas is just 15 years old, but he owns his own dog grooming business that started with a love of dogs and a way to cope with anxiety. Zamari went to dog grooming school and opened the business, Canine By Zamari, next door to his home in Loris at age 14! He said he struggles with anxiety and that creates a bond with the dogs who are usually experiencing anxiety when they get groomed. They work together and by the end they both feel better. By the way, the grooming products he uses are made by his sister, Zori who owns her own business called Soap and Soothe by Jammygirl. (wpde.com)
- Garden City Grocery, a family-owned small grocery store, is slowly making progress toward reopening after being flooded from Hurricane Ian. The store was filled with almost three feet of water after the storm that pushed refrigerators across the room and ripped a hole through one wall. The owners had to tear out everything and start over from scratch. They are hoping to reopen in mid-December. (WMBF)
- Charlie's Place was inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Board's Hall of Fame. Charlie's Place was originally a small hotel and nightclub that was a safe place for African Americans to get together and have a good time back in the Jim Crow era. The induction has earned Charlie's Place recognition as one of the most significant places in Myrtle Beach history. (WMBF)
- On Tuesday, November 22, the Myrtle Beach Vet Center is hosting the Veteran Expo at General Reed Recreation Center. There is no registration required. Vendors at the expo will include SC Works, the VA Legal Justice Program, vocational rehab counselors, the DVA Chapter 30, flu shots offered by VAMC, as well as peer specialists and suicide prevention counseling. The expo begins at 9 a.m. (City Of Myrtle Beach)
- Here's the high school football playoffs schedule for SCISA schools. All games start at 7:30 p.m. (WBTW)
Alrighty, you're all good for today! I'll be back in your inbox tomorrow with another update.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
