Here are the top 5 stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A West Virginia woman went above and beyond the call of travel duty to deliver a Christmas puppy to a young girl in Myrtle Beach. On one of the busiest travel days of the holiday season, Karen Hunter flew from Huntington, WV to Atlanta, then to Myrtle Beach, and then to Charlotte. The whole thing started with a Facebook post from a former co-worker of Hunter's, who asked if anyone would be willing to pick up the dog and deliver it to their grandchild in time for the holiday. Hunter raised her hand for the assignment, brought the pup to Myrtle Beach, and flew to Charlotte in time to have holiday dinner with her son. (WMBF)
  2. Visit Myrtle Beach has a new column on its website called "My Myrtle Beach Story." The first installment is from a Canadian couple who were able to return to the Grand Strand (their "second home") after having to wait for COVID travel restrictions to be lifted. Read their happy story, and maybe you want to contact Visit Myrtle Beach and share yours! (VisitMyrtleBeach.com)
  3. One person was shot and injured, but expected to survive, early Friday morning at a club in Atlantic Beach. Police say the shooting happened around 3:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Thee Doll House. The Atlantic Beach Police department is investigating, and looking for a person of interest. (WBTW)
  4. Beware of banking app scams! A Murrells Inlet man found out the hard way when he became the victim of an elaborate scam that looked and sounded professional. The man lost around $3,500 from his bank account after receiving text messages and calls that appeared to come from his banking institution, telling him that someone had hacked into his account via the Zelle money transfer app. Scammers are getting more and more sophisticated, so it's important to question everything no matter how legitimate it may appear, says experts. 5. ICYMI: This Carolina Forest Volkswagen owner has been decorating his car with holiday lights since 2017 and driving around town just to make people happy. The young man likes to drive the Santa car around just to see the reaction from people during the holiday season. He also enters the vehicle in drag races. This year he added 1,000 lights to the Santa Buggy, which he powers up with a 300-watt inverter. Next year, he wants to add even more lights. He bought the vehicle in 2017 off Craigslist for $5,000! About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
