Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A SWAT team and heavy police presence were seen near Sea Mountain Highway in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach for several hours on Thursday afternoon. The suspect was eventually taken into custody at around 3:30 p.m. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
  2. Local mayors endorsed incumbent Governor Henry McMaster for re-election during McMaster's visit to the Grand Strand on Thursday. Mayor Brenda Bethune of Myrtle Beach and Mayor Marilyn Hatley of North Myrtle Beach were two of many South Carolina mayors to give their endorsements to McMaster. Bethune said in a statement that South Carolina is "thriving under the leadership of Henry McMaster." The governor was in Murrells Inlet and Conway as part of his 19-stop bus tour around the Grand Strand and Pee Dee. (WBTW)
  3. The town of Atlantic Beach will be getting solar-powered lights, Wi-Fi, electric vehicle charging stations, cameras and more from American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funds. Mayor Jake Evans says the investment will create jobs and grow the economy. (Myhorrynews)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
