First, Sunday's weather:
Partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 84 Low: 71.
Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- In an unusual weather pattern for September, the Grand Strand is experiencing unseasonably low temperatures and very little humidity all weekend. But longshore currents are really strong, causing somewhat hazardous conditions, so be extra careful swimming at the beaches. This is usually the height of the hurricane season, so this kind of weather is a real treat! (Myhorrynews)
- The busy Marshwalk restaurants of Murrells Inlet are excited about the 90%-plus capacity at hotels and rental properties this weekend, but they urge patrons to be extra patient because most area restaurants are still experiencing staff shortages. Restaurant owners and managers want to remind guests that there may be longer wait times for service and parking, especially in this popular neighborhood of the Grand Strand. (WMBF)
- Emergency 911 operators in Horry County are experiencing a higher call volume, while working under a staffing shortage, says Horry County 911 director, Renee Hardwick. The department has hired 22 new staff members and will be removing a temporary "please stay on the line" message that has greeted 911 callers recently. The new hires will be trained in two separate areas due to space limitations. The agency is moving to a new location soon, and its original facility will become a backup center. (WBTW)
- Jerry Moore, a teacher at St. James High School, wrote an open letter to Horry County school administrators about the health and well-being of students, teachers and staff at district schools. Moore cited the number of people in quarantine due to COVID-19, as well as virtual learning plans. He urged leaders to take action to slow the virus spread and work together with teachers and staff to implement helpful changes. (wpde.com)
- Meanwhile, Horry County Schools has announced two new options for reduction of quarantine time in order to get students back to schools for in-person learning. There will be two different sets of guidelines. The new guidelines will take effect Tuesday, September 7th. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
