Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Horry County Police have arrested a teenager and charged him with murder in the deadly shooting in Carolina Forest over Thanksgiving weekend. Devon Charles Smith, 17, of Conway is charged with murder for the shooting that occurred on November 27th on Augusta Plantation Drive. The name of the deceased victim has not been released. (WMBF)
  2. An ex-substitute Spanish teacher has been accused of offering marijuana to students and making "inappropriate contact" during class, according to MB Police. The former teacher who was working at Myrtle Beach High School was arrested, and her employment with Horry County Schools was terminated on November 12th. The teacher was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. She was ordered not to have any contact with the teenage victims and stay away from Horry County School district schools while the case is pending. (WBTW)
  3. A group of retired men who moved to Myrtle Beach from the northeast gifted an early Christmas surprise to a Socastee family in need. The Gonzalez family lost everything in a recent fire at their home. The group, Brothers of Myrtle Beach, or "BOMB," raised around two thousand dollars for the Gonzalez family. 4. A Myrtle Beach couple who adopted a Pomeranian dog about a year ago are seeking justice after their pet was attacked by a larger dog, and later died. A few days before Thanksgiving, during their walk, a larger dog came through some bushes, off-leash, and attacked the Pomeranian. The smaller dog did not survive. The Pomeranian's owner is sight-impaired and was not able to identify three women who left the scene with the larger dog. MB Police are asking if the public has any information, please call. Calls will remain anonymous. (WMBF)
  5. Myrtle Beach City Council has approved funding of $20 million for the downtown "facelift" of Myrtle Beach. Funding for the rehabilitation project comes from TIF (tax increment finance) revenue. The same funding resource was used a few years ago to renovate the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base into what is now known as Market Common. Phase 1 of the plan is set to kick off during the first quarter of 2022, and is in an early visualizing stage. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
