Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Tidelands Health reached a major milestone on Monday morning: zero COVID-19 hospitalizations! For the first time in two years, the hospital system has no COVID-19 patients. The first COVID patient treated at Tidelands was on March 16, 2020. The health network says this doesn't mean COVID-19 is over completely, but there is certainly something to celebrate as it looks forward to more and more COVID-free days. (WMBF) (WBTW)
  2. A Lancaster, South Carolina woman has died, weeks after having been shot on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Horry County Deputy Coroner McSpadden announced that Rhonda Harris, 38, had been hospitalized since March 1, and died on Friday from the gunshot injuries she sustained in a shooting near the Yachtsman Resort. The case was ruled a homicide, and Myrtle Beach Police are continuing the investigation. (WBTW)
  3. The body of a 36-year-old man found near Watertower Road has been identified as that of Zachary Sawyer, a person who had led authorities on a two-county car chase about a week ago. During that chase, police ended pursuit due to safety reasons. Police had said that Sawyer was believed to be a risk to himself at that time. On Friday, Sawyer was reported missing and endangered. His body was recovered later on Friday, and the coroner's office has ruled the death as a suicide. (WMBF)
  4. Law enforcement has issued a citation to Greene's Liquor store in Georgetown after it was discovered that tobacco and/or alcohol had been sold to underage customers. Several stores were under investigation for the violation, but all the others were found to be compliant. A group of law enforcement agencies will be checking more businesses during the coming weeks. (WPDE)
  5. McLeod Health has announced that it has modified its visitation policy as a result of the decrease in COVID-19 cases. Effective immediately, the organization has expanded visitation to four visitors at a time during the normal visiting hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Armbands or visitor passes will be provided as each visitor enters the facility. Visitors are required to wear facemasks and have their pass or armband with them at all times. The expanded visiting policy applies to the facilities in Cheraw, Clarendon, Dillon, Loris, the McLeod Regional Medical Center, and McLeod Health Seacoast. More detailed visitation rules are outlined here: (WPDE)

Alrighty, you're all good for Tuesday, everyone. I'll see you Wednesday for your mid-week Myrtle Beach Daily!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
