Here are the top three stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A nonprofit organization is continuing to build 40 tiny homes for homeless veterans in Myrtle Beach. The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center is building the homes along 3rd Avenue North, where veterans are allowed to stay as long as they'd like, provided they follow a few simple rules, such as no drugs or alcohol. Both the property and the project were provided to the organization by an anonymous local donor. (WMBF)
  2. The Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina is getting a head start with the Halloween spirit by accepting donations for "Halloween Hero Boxes." The organization is collecting candy, non-perishables, and toiletries to ship to troops overseas. Carol Dion, the president of the organization, says they try to send care packages four to five times a year with the community's help. (wpde.com)
  3. After an hours-long police standoff incident at the Happy Holiday Motel last week, a man has been charged with resisting arrest. According to MBPD, Darryl Dashawn Jones, 35, of Myrtle Beach, originally called the police to report a theft. Officers learned Jones was wanted for a parole violation and, when attempting to take him into custody, Jones allegedly swallowed several bags of an unknown substance. He was taken to a hospital for treatment before being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. (WMBF)
