The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, everybody! It's Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Myrtle Beach and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in our community, including updates on:

  • Four people were arrested on the South Strand in two separate drug trafficking cases.
  • Painter's Ice Cream is opening a new location in Surfside Beach on the pier!
  • Crafts, seafood, dogs, a pow-wow and a dance are part of your Sunday events!

But first, today's weather:

Partly sunny and pleasant. High: 79 Low: 63.

Here are the top three stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Three people were arrested in Murrells Inlet during the commission of a search warrant on Friday that resulted in the seizure of drugs, firearms and cash. The three individuals face a number of charges including various drug-related charges, fraud and other charges. The two men are being held in Georgetown Detention Center. The woman is at Long Detention Center. (WBTW)
  2. A Myrtle Beach man was charged for trafficking heroin and cocaine after a traffic stop in Georgetown County. During the stop, agents found over 600 grams of heroin, approximately 30 grams of cocaine and some cash. A K9 officer assisted with the case. (wpde.com)(WMBF)
  3. Longtime Grand Strand ice cream shop, Painter's Homemade Ice Cream, will open a new location on the rebuilt Surfside Beach pier, the company announced in a news release. Painter's has been in business since the 1950s on the Grand Strand. (Myhorrynews) (WBTW) (wpde.com)

  • Pooch-A-Mania @ Grand Park, Market Common (11 a.m.)
  • Waccamaw Indian People Arts Fest & Pauwau @ Waccamaw Tribal Grounds, Aynor (11 a.m.)
  • Social Dance @ General Reed Recreation Center (3 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • My husband and I were pleased to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at PrimePet Rehab in Myrtle Beach on Saturday. Dr. Tom Walsh and his staff were amazing when they treated our dog, Petey, recently. Petey had been paralyzed in all four legs and now he can walk, run, jump and play again thanks to PrimePet's therapies. Mayor Brenda Bethune cut the ribbon Saturday at the new facility on Mr. Joe White Avenue and she made a heartfelt speech about how her dog, Max, was rehabilitated at PrimePet, too. PrimePet requires referral from a veterinarian at the moment, but plans to offer other services as time goes on. (PrimePet Rehab)
  • New13's Pet of the weekend is Oreo, a young dog available for adoption from Grand Strand Humane Society. Oreo has a unique look! Oreo is trained. He loves other dogs and car rides. He is either a Lab or a hound mix and he's very friendly and playful. (WBTW) Grand Strand Humane Society had to temporarily close one location due to sick volunteers. The shelter was so short-staffed that, when two volunteers got sick, there was not enough staff to cover all the GSHS locations. All locations should reopen within a day or so. (wpde.com)
  • Myrtle Beach Pelicans: "The annual Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game will be played on Saturday, November 12 at Pelicans Ballpark! The event will feature an 8-team showdown between local first responders with proceeds benefiting SOS Care and Horry County Project Lifesaver." (Myrtle Beach Pelicans via Facebook)
  • In a press release issued on Friday, Myrtle Beach-based Grace Revealed, LLC announced that it is celebrating its third anniversary on November 15 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce offices. The company provides stress-reduction training for workplaces. (GraceRevealedLLC.com)
  • As we approach Veterans Day on Friday, some Horry County volunteers gathered together to help the veteran community of Myrtle Beach. A group of volunteers including some employees from Home Depot in Murrells Inlet got together and beautified the Disabled American Veterans Center of Myrtle Beach building by adding a fresh coat of paint, some flowers and a new flag garden. Chapter 30 DAV Commander Michael DiLeo expressed his appreciation to the group. Veterans may attend chapter meetings at the facility on the first Thursday of every month. (WMBF)

Thanks for following along and staying informed! I'll see you Monday for all the Grand Strand news you'll need.

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
