Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Serious injuries have been reported in a Myrtle Beach jet ski crash that happened on Sunday on the Intracoastal Waterway. The crash happened near the area of Mr. Joe White Avenue on Sunday evening. Two people were taken to the hospital, and there is no update on their condition at this time. SCDNR is investigating the incident. (WMBF)
- A fire in the woods of Waties Island had firefighters busy late Sunday night. Around 11 p.m. the flames could be seen from Cherry Grove. Horry County Fire Rescue and NMB Fire Rescue responded from Hogs Inlet access, and more crews responded from Little River Neck access to the island. A drone was also used to pinpoint the exact location of the blaze. Crews used a floating pump to put out the fire. Waties Island is managed by Coastal Carolina University. The university's police department also responded. (wpde.com)
- In Surfside Beach, smoke alarms alerted a resident to an overnight fire in a home on Gulfstream Court near Wild Water and Wheels Water Park. One person was displaced, but was uninjured. The fire occurred around 2:20 a.m. and was mostly contained in the kitchen area of the house. The resident is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. (WMBF)
- A Palmetto Cash 5 winning ticket worth $200,000 was sold Saturday in North Myrtle Beach at the Food Lion on 1000 Highway 17 North. The purse was valued at $100,000, but the ticket holder paid an extra dollar to "power up" the kitty, thus doubling the prize. Winners have 180 days to claim the money. So far, no one has come forward. (wpde.com) (WMBF)
- Myrtle Beach police issued a man a mistreatment of an animal summons after a dog was found locked inside a hot car with no ventilation at the Rhodes Myrtle Beach Sports Center. The outside temperature at the time was 83, making the temperature inside the vehicle around 100 degrees. The brown and tan mixed breed female dog was inside a plastic crate in the rear passenger seat of a Honda Accord, at 1 p.m. The dog had no water, and was heavily panting according to a police report. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
