Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Two women reported missing recently were each found safe. A Florence woman last heard from during a phone call was found safe in Myrtle Beach. She has been reunited with her family who had reported her missing. (WBTW) A Myrtle Beach woman with medical issues who was reported missing on Monday was also found safe, police confirmed. (wpde.com)
  2. Forty-six dogs were seized in the most recent Horry County animal investigation and brought to Horry County Animal Care Center. In all, 34 adult dogs and 12 puppies were seized by police at a property on Highway 905 near Conway. The owner of the dogs surrendered the animals to law enforcement and was given citations for violating the county's animal care and treatment ordinance. The 46 animals will receive medical care before being available for adoption. Regular adoptions and operations have resumed at HCACC and its partner, Tamroc Kennels. (wpde.com) (Myhorrynews)
  3. A person was arrested after barricading himself inside the Happy Holiday Hotel on North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday. The incident began when police attempted to arrest the person outside on the street, but the man was able to get loose and went into the hotel. Negotiations with police eventually resulted in the man being taken into custody. (WWAY NewsChannel 3) (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
  4. Get ready for some local road closures. Over the next few months and years, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will get to work on several Myrtle Beach area roads. These include so-called "weird intersections" such as Highway 501 and Third Avenue South, and Highway 501 and Cannon Road. Other streets scheduled for safety updates and improvements include Mr. Joe White Avenue in between the two 17s, U.S. 17 at 67th Avenue North and 21st Avenue North from Highway 17 to North Ocean Boulevard. The city of Myrtle Beach is not responsible for payment of these improvements because the roads are state roads. Therefore the SC Department of Transportation money will be funding the projects. (WBTW)
  5. Horry County Schools has approved $18.1 million in district-wide raises. On Monday night school board members voted unanimously on the proposal to give teachers, support staff and administrators higher salaries. School nurses who have been continuously working for the district since August of 2021 will get a $3,000 retention bonus from SCDHEC. (wpde.com) District leaders also approved a resolution at the meeting stating that Horry County Schools will not teach critical race theory. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
