Sunny and pleasant. High: 69 Low: 58.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Florence County Coroner, Keith von Lutcken, released autopsy and toxicology results for 21-year-old Sheridan Wahl, who went missing from Myrtle Beach in September. Wahl's body was found behind the Hannah-Salem Friendfield Fire Department on September 21st, two days after her torched car was found 10 miles away. The autopsy reveals Wahl's cause of death was blunt force injury caused by a fall. The manner of death will be classified as "undetermined." It was revealed that her body was found at the base of a Training Tower at the fire department. Wahl had been dropped off there by someone who had picked her up at the same location where her car was found. (WPDE) (WMBF)
- Horry County Councilman, Johnny Gardner, introduced an ordinance to limit public comment at council meetings. His proposal would prevent participants from commenting at meetings more than once every 60 days. Evidently the county does have this rule in place, but it is not enforced. Residents who oppose the rule say the whole point of a democratic republic is the right to speak at such meetings, and that the council works for the people who elected them in the first place. (WMBF)
- Horry County Schools completed this year's annual evaluation of Superintendent Rick Maxey, and the board voted unanimously to boost his annual salary to $260,000 and extend his contract to 2025. Maxey was congratulated for his handling of the schools during the pandemic, and was thanked for his leadership. The Board of Education released a statement about the evaluation on its Facebook page, with a link to the evaluation. (MyHorryNews.com) (Facebook)
- Horry County Schools and Conway Medical Center are teaming up to provide COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The Pfizer shot is now available for children ages 5-11, and clinics have been set up at four elementary schools. Parents will have to sign forms, and children must be accompanied by a parent. The two organizations have stressed that the shots are completely optional, but are encouraged and available for anyone who wants them. (WMBF)
- A newly-formed organization focused on revitalization efforts in downtown Myrtle Beach, called the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance, is planning to contribute to the projects already commencing in that area. The organization is headed up by CEO Amy Barrett, and consists of 18 board members comprised of people from the private sector as well as local government officials. Revamping the downtown area of Myrtle Beach has been tried before, but never seems to take hold. This group is aiming for a better outcome. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
