Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has released documents detailing the disappearance and death of 21-year-old Sheridan Wahl. Last September, Wahl was visiting Myrtle Beach from Florida, when she disappeared and was subsequently found dead a few days later in Florence County. In the link here, WMBF has provided a chronological timeline of facts and events in the case, as well as a 13-page PDF of the documents obtained from SLED. (WMBF)
  2. The U.S. Coast Guard is advising boaters not to fill their fuel tanks with E-15 gasoline, a fuel mixture that contains 15% ethanol. The E-15 fuel that was recently authorized for use by the Biden Administration can cause a boat to catch fire. Heading into summer, boaters are feeling the pinch at the pump as gas prices break records daily. Boat-related businesses are feeling it, too, with many marinas grinding to a standstill as boat owners are keeping their watercraft docked for the time being. (wpde.com)
  3. Conway police are seeking four unidentified people who were seen in a silver van removing the bronze, 50-pound "Timmy the Turtle" statue from a pedestal along the city's Riverwalk. The same group of people are suspected in another matter where flowers were removed from planters. The four suspects can be seen in video footage inside the linked article here. CPD is asking anyone with information to call the department at (843) 248-1790. (WBTW)
  4. Governor Henry McMaster made an appearance in Horry County on Friday to talk about hurricane prep plans with state and local officials. The state wants everyone to know their evacuation zone, know their evacuation route, and prepare homes for hurricanes and flooding now. There are 35 evacuation routes within South Carolina, all of them are in good condition and have signs displayed showing drivers the way out of the area. (WBTW)
  5. Horry County Animal Care Center in Conway had announced that it would be temporarily closed all day Saturday upon receiving more than 30 animals that were seized in a neglect case. The center ended up reopening mid-morning on Saturday, and says it is offering pets for adoption at no charge because they have run out of space. The animals seized in the neglect case are not up for adoption. The pets that are available are spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on all their shots, they have also been microchipped. The shelter is closed on Sundays, but they are offering free adoptions for the next week, possibly longer. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Bravo to reader Glenda Brown who sent in this picture of her dog — whose name is Bravo! Glenda's pup enjoys sniffing the sand, people watching and meeting other dogs on the beach. Thanks for the cute photograph, Glenda!

You're all caught up for Sunday. See you all Monday morning for a new week of all things Myrtle Beach!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
