First, a peek at the continued autumn weather:

A mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. High: 78 Low: 59.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Authorities in Florence County have revealed that Sheridan Wahl's car was found, but not at the same location as her body. The missing Florida woman's automobile was discovered burned in a cornfield, in a ditch in the town of Scranton, SC. That's about 10 miles from where her body was discovered, after she did not show up to visit family in Myrtle Beach last Sunday. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday at MUSC with results expected soon. (WMBF)
  2. South Carolina Highway Patrol has released dashcam video of trooper W.B. Benton's fatal shooting of Tristan Vereen that occurred on September 11th during a struggle between the two following a car chase and pursuit on foot. Vereen can be heard asking for help, and Benton can be heard radioing SCHP dispatch for an ambulance. A doorbell camera video from a nearby residence was also released earlier this week by authorities. SLED is still investigating the case and has not provided comment on the investigation. 3. Drivers had to bring a little patience along in Murrells Inlet on Friday when two events caused long backups on both 17s. A four-mile back up was reported on Highway 17 Bypass near Huntington State Park that authorities attributed to the kickoff of the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival. They further stated that the park was at or near full capacity. Meanwhile, Highway 17 Business in the Garden City neighborhood of Murrells Inlet was also backed up due to a crash involving a golf cart and a car. There is no information on injuries from the latter incident, and Garden City Fire Department worked quickly to clear the area. (wpde.com) (WBTW)
  4. This week was National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, and here in Horry County, students of all ages have participated in adult learning classes. Programs are free for anyone not in the K-12 age group, so teens through seniors (the ones over 65!) are signing up to learn something new, complete high school, earn a GED, or learn job skills. Enrollment is open all academic year, and there is free child care or online classes to accommodate various situations. (wpde.com)
  5. Horry County Council will meet to discuss Interstate 73 and the widening of Highway 90. Proposals for the two infrastructure projects are on this week's agenda. A proposed 44-mile roadway would, when completed, connect the Grand Strand to I-95, at a cost of over $1 billion. Funds from the county's RIDE II road program would pay for the S.C. 90 widening project and some improvements between S.C. 22 and U.S. 501 Business as well. (MyHorryNews.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
